The reality

Where prospects go instead.

  • The advisor in the Maps top 3 gets the call, not you.
  • The one with hundreds of recent reviews looks more credible.
  • A slow or missing contact form sends them elsewhere.

Why advisor marketing is its own thing

People research an advisor before they ever call.

Picking a financial advisor is a high-trust decision, and people treat it that way. They rarely call the first name they hear. They search “financial advisor near me” or “fee-only advisor” plus their town, read the reviews, glance at your credentials, open your site to see whether you're fee-only or commission and who you actually work with, and only then reach out, usually to more than one. Almost none of that involves talking to you. So the whole game is being findable and credible during the research, before a conversation exists. If you're not in the local results, or your listing is thin and your site is dated, you're simply never in the running, no matter how good your advice is.

Here's the part most advisors haven't caught up on. For decades, SEC rules effectively barred advisors from using client testimonials in advertising. That changed when the SEC's updated Marketing Rule took effect in late 2022: registered advisors can now use client reviews and testimonials, as long as the required disclosures are made and the firm keeps the oversight and records the rule calls for. Reviews are the single strongest credibility signal a prospect looks for, and they're exactly what your competitors are still leaving on the table out of old habit. A compliant, steady review presence is one of the clearest edges available in this field right now. The final sign-off always stays with your compliance officer, but the opportunity is real and current.

What that means for the build is specific. A Google Business Profile filled out properly for the way people search for an advisor. A review request flow that fits inside your compliance process instead of fighting it. A site that says plainly what you do, how you're paid, and who you serve, and loads fast on a phone. And follow-up that reaches a Saturday form-fill the same day, because a prospect comparing two or three advisors goes with whoever answers first. Start with the biggest leak and add the rest as it earns its keep.

What I'd look at first

What I'd look at first in an advisory practice.

The prospect who fills out your form on Saturday and hears back Tuesday

Replied to and booked the same minute, with the record kept the way compliance wants it.

The advisor-near-me search where you are not in the top three

A Google listing built properly, with reviews requested within the rules you operate under.

The onboarding paperwork you re-key into three systems

Typed once, filed everywhere it needs to go, with a checklist that closes itself.

How it works

Three steps, no long contract.

  • 1

A 30-minute automation check, no cost. I tell you the biggest leak in your pipeline, whether or not you hire me.

  • 2

Pick what matters most. Most of it runs month-to-month; one-time builds too. No long contract.

  • 3

I build it. You watch it work.
